'Accordionist'
Madrid, Spain
2025
When the team at Global Street Art took the five selected artists to see Cirque du Soleil’s Alegría, I found it impossible not to become distracted from the constant stimulation of the acrobats and their pirouettes, the clowns and their jokes, the fire of the jugglers, and instead end up focusing on the musicians accompanying every movement unfolding on stage.
They did it so well — the music was so carefully composed, performed, and synchronized with everything happening on stage — that it almost went unnoticed. And precisely there lay much of its magic.
After the show, we stayed talking with several of the performers, and I had the chance to exchange a few words with the accordionist Sara Formoso, who shared details and insights about what it means to perform that music live, emotionally sustaining every moment of the show from an almost invisible place.
It was easy for me to decide to pay tribute to Sara, as a representative of all the musicians in the show, and to try, through this mural, to highlight those who make possible the atmosphere that surrounds and gives life to everything happening on stage.
